Several news outlets and social media started airing breaking news on March 15, 2024, that renowned Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan was hospitalised on Friday morning for an angioplasty. Amid the hype over the 81-year-old actor’s health, it has been aired on several TV news channels that he had undergone an angioplasty. The news can be seen here and here.
A report by The Indian Express clearly said, “Doctors at Kokilaben Hospital confirmed that Amitabh Bachchan underwent an angioplasty.” Another report by The Times of India said the actor had been discharged from the hospital after he had undergone an “angioplasty” performed on a clot in his leg, and not on his heart.
FACT CHECK
The Digiteye India team checked for the facts as there are conflicting reports, some denying hospitalisation and others denying coronory angioplasty. First of all, it became evident that the actor was, indeed, taken to the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai in the wee hours on Friday, where he reportedly underwent treatment for an unconfirmed ailment.
Secondly, a person who undergoes coronory angioplasty is not advised by medical doctors to walk the next day itself. But the actor was seen healthy and walking in his usual way the next day. When questioned about his health the next day, the actor denied that he underwent angioplasty and called it a “Fake News”. See the video on Instagram below:

Hence, the news reports were not accurate about the exact ailment for which the actor has been taken to the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai on March 15, 2024.
