A video about the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi is going viral with a claim that he refused to wear an Assamese Gamosa offered by a Congress worker to welcome him at Silchar airport during his visit to Assam.

The video clip also shows Rahul Gandhi leaving the airport surrounded by several people offering him scarves or tricolour shawl. The caption of the viral clip states: “Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi refused to wear an Assamese Gamosa while a Congress worker tried to welcome him at Silchar airport.”

FACT-CHECK

Rahul Gandhi visited Assam on July 8, 2024 to meet the flood victims in the state and news reports confirm that he was welcomedby Indian National Congress members at the airport. In one of the videos shared by the Youth Congress, Rahul Gandhi was clearly seen wearing the Gamosa:

While coming out of the airport, one can see Rahul Gandhi holding several Gamosas in his hands already as hundreds of people outside were seen holding Gamosas in their hands to offer him. Here’s another video by 24 News uploaded on Youtube on July 8, 2024.

Hence, the claim is misleading that Rahul Gandhi refused to wear Gamosa.
