Does this image show Priyanka Gandhi smiling at Tiger attack victim’s house? Fact-Check

An image showing a photo of Congress leader and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi smiling with her daughter, with a claim that it shows her smiling and cheerful while visiting the family of Radha, a tribal woman who lost her life in a tiger attack in her constituency January 24, 2025.

The Malayalam text in the graphic read:”കടുവ കൊന്ന രാധയുടെ വീട്ടിൽ പ്രിയങ്ക ഗാന്ധി” (Translated, it reads: “Priyanka Gandhi at the house of Radha” who was killed by a tiger. The image also showing news outlet Asianet News logo, sought to criticise Priyanka Gandhi for laughing at a place where sorrow surrounded the kin of the deceased.

FACT-CHECK

Taking the image and conducting a Google reverse Image Search yielded the original image dated May 25, 2024 whichwas entirely out of context. In the original image, the Congress leader was sharing moments after casting her vote during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The original image was posted on X by The Hindu on May 25, 2024.

Next, we checked the images related to Priyanka Gandhi’s visit to the house of Radha’s kin, which showed different images as seen below:

Next, we copied the Malayalam text in the graphic, “കടുവ കൊന്ന രാധയുടെ വീട്ടിൽ പ്രിയങ്ക ഗാന്ധി” (Priyanka Gandhi at the house of Radha who was killed by a tiger) and ran it for the original graphic on Asianet News portal, which also showed the different visual as below.

As seen in the first image, she was consoling the family members of the tiger attack victim and not smiling or looking cheerful as claimed.  Hence, the viral claim used a different image of Priyanka Gandhi smiling out of context to mislead viewers.

Conclusion: Misrepresentation. An old photo of Priyanka Gandhi smiling after casting her vote in May 2024 elections was falsely shared as that of Kerala when she went to console the kin of a deceased woman.
