Altered soundtrack of a video claims Rahul Gandhi resigning from Congress; Fact Check

A video depicting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reading out a declaration stating that he is resigning from the Congress Party is being shared on Twitter (X) raising several eyebrows.

Posted on X handle by user @MithilaWaala with the caption, “Don’t know whether this video is true or edited”, the video can be seen below:

In the viral video, Rahul Gandhi can be seen signing documents and reading out a statement announcing his resignation in Hindi that is translated into English as: “I, Rahul Gandhi, am resigning from the Congress as I’m tired of being a ‘Chunavi Hindu’ (Hindu during elections). I did undertake the anyay yatra and released the manifesto, but Modi keeps sending corrupt people to jail. Under Modi’s regime, corrupt people will be sent to jail, hence, I am going to my grandfather’s house (Italy).”

FACT CHECK

Digiteye India found that the video was familiar as the filing of nomination by Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad in Kerala was top in the news a week ago. When we checked for the real video with the original soundtrack, we found several news channels uploaded the event on April 3, 2024, wherein the Congress leader is seen filing his nomination papers in Wayanad.

Rahul Gandhi can be seen reading out a statutory statement at 1:00 onwards that said: “I, Rahul Gandhi, having been nominated as a candidate to fill a seat in the House of the People, do solemnly affirm that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the constitution of India as by law established and that I will uphold the sovereignty and integrity of the country.”

Hence, the sound track of the original video was altered to make it sound as Rahul Gandhi resigning from the Congress Party. Hence, the claim is totally false.

Conclusion: The claim is totally false. The sound track of the original video of Rahul Gandhi filing his nomination papers in Wayanad has been altered to discredit him.
