A viral video is being circulated around social media platforms showcasing Rajat Sharma speaking about India’s decision to reduce the exports of generic drugs to the US by half. This video justifies this decision by India as a response to the 50% tariff cap imposed by the United States.

Rajat Sharma is a prominent Indian journalist acting as the chairman and Editor-in-chief of India TV. The video which is being shared is around 8 minutes and 40 seconds with stock visuals among others.

Verified X user ‘PADHYPRASANKRT’ shared this claim, praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking this decision. View the post below

Another X user ‘satsangi’ shared the same video claiming that “Emergency type situations is created now in USA as the Hospitals in USA are looking for Indian medicines urgently.”  View the post below –

FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India took up this claim and found that it is false.

No government press releases from the Ministry of Commerce or Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council (Pharmexcil) mention any export cuts. Broader web searches and keyword queries found no credible evidence of the claim, only discussions on potential tariff risks without actual reductions.

We then checked the video which was filled with stock visuals and clips of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump. The video begins with Rajat Sharma in the frame but there is no logo of the India TV logo. Here is an image from the video shared in the claim without logo –

However, when we searched for other videos on the India TV Youtube channel, the logo was present. Below is a screenshot taken from an episode of the show ‘Aap Ki Adalat’ hosted by Rajat Sharma. The image below has the logo of India TV –

That being said, the video present in the claim is not available on the India TV Youtube channel. The video is not present on the India TV official website or any snippets from the India TV Instagram page. Neither Rajat Sharma nor India TV has issued any report on such a decision; searches on their official channels yield no matching content.

The AI video has lip sync issues, with the mouth movements not matching the audio. Facial expressions also appear delayed or mismatched in some parts. To verify this, we ran the part featuring Rajat Sharma through Hive Moderation AI video checker.

The audio turned out to be 99% AI generated. View the result below –

Thus, the claim is completely false. There is no evidence of India reducing generic drug exports to the US by half.  The video is an AI-generated fabrication and there have been no official statements by the Indian or US Government on this.
