In the clip, PM Modi asks the children if they recognize him, to which they respond affirmatively, saying they saw him on TV. When he inquires what he was watching on TV, a child allegedly replies “vote chori” (vote theft).

This claim suggests that the children were publicly mocking Modi after alleged vote manipulation charges levelled by Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition, who also took out “Voter Adhikar Yatra” campaign. Gandhi accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Election Commission of India (ECI) of voter list tampering in states like Bihar, Maharashtra, and Karnataka.

DigitEYE India, when checked for the claim, it was found that the video was tweaked and edited. The video is digitally edited to insert the “vote chori” response and adding misleading subtitles. The original footage dates back to July 29, 2023, when PM Modi inaugurated the Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi.
When we checked for official confirmations , we landed on an official PIB report. Published on 29 July 2023, the press releases states how “The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi spent time with children at Bal Vatika on the sidelines of Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam at Bharat Mandapam today”
The press release also captured a post by the Prime Minister on his official X post (then Twitter). The post made on 29 July 2023 is captioned: “मासूम बच्चों के साथ आनंद के कुछ पल! इनकी ऊर्जा और उत्साह से मन उमंग से भर जाता है।”In English this reads : “Some joyful moments with innocent children! Their energy and enthusiasm fill the heart with excitement.”

Thus, the claim is misleading and the child did not say such any such thing. The edited clip overlays fabricated audio and additional text to show the “vote chori” line in the video. hence, a false narrative.
