Did actor Ranveer Singh seek votes in favour of Congress Party in a video? Fact Check

Amid the election fever is gripping the nation, several videos are being shared of actors supporting one political party or the other. One such video of Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh is going viral, in which the actor is seen supporting the Congress party’s manifesto in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024. See the video here:

The Congress’s manifesto released on April 5, 2024 has focussed on justice or NYAY. It refers to 25 guarantees covering the youth, women, farmers, workers, and social justice and the Congress has pledged job creation, a Right to Apprenticeship, and 1 lakh annually to all poor households, among others. In this context, the video has been shared by a Congress party functionary with a caption that reads: “Vote for justice, vote for Congress.”

FACT CHECK

Digiteye India checked for the original video uploaded by news agency ANI, in which it was evident that the actor was not speaking about the Congress but praising PM Narendra Modi’s work in his constituency Varanasi. He is not appealing for votes in favour of any party.

The video of the actor was released by ANI on April 16, 2024 when Ranveer Singh visited Varanasi. Hence, the actor’s voice has been altered or cloned to show that he was seeking votes in favour of the Congress party. The lip-sync is also vividly different. Hence, the claim is false.

Conclusion: The claim is false. The actor is praising PM Modi’s work in Varanasi and not seeking votes for any political party.
