Did BBC show India map without Jammu and Kashmir again as claimed? Fact check

Amid controversy over BBC’s three-part documentary titled ‘India: The Modi Question’, a BBC article with India’s map showing without Jammu and Kashmir in it is going viral on social media provoking the narrative against BBC with calls for a ban on the broadcaster.

FACT CHECK

The latest controversy over BBC’s 2015 article without Jammu and Kashmir in India’s map has been shared by one Anil K Antony, a tech entrepreneur with a claim that it showed “some past shenanigans of BBC” used “truncated maps without Kashmir.”

This article was actually published on 12 November 2015 and it also said, “This video originally used an inaccurate map of India” and the BBC had “taken the decision to remove the video” in light of that error. In fact, in another report from 17 January 2021, BBC carried a similar map without Jammu and Kashmir in India and said “the error was corrected.”

Hence, the current screenshot was very old article from 2015 on which action was already taken and the claim that it was latest is false.

Claim: BBC article shows India map without Jammu and Kashmir
Conclusion: The said BBC article was from November 2015 that has been removed.
