Recently several social media users have shared a clip, accusing BJP leader, Member of Parliament Bansuri Swaraj of disrespecting the Indian National Anthem. X user ‘NCMIndiaa’ shared such a claim accompanied by a 31 second video showing Swaraj on stage with BJP workers at an event in Bodh Gaya.

In the footage, she moves forward in the middle, speaks briefly, and seems to step away, prompting claims of insult under Section 3 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971. The post labels this as “punishable” and has garnered over 10,000 views which can be viewed here

Similarly, verified X user ‘ssrajputINC’ shared the same claim with the caption : “राष्ट्रगान की बेइज्जती करती हुई भाजपा सांसद बांसुरी स्वराज! इन्हें देशद्रोह में जेल भेजिये मोदी जी!वरना माना जायेंगे आप देश में दो संविधान चलाते है एक आम इंसान के लिये दूसरा भाजपा वालो के लिये?”

Translated to Engish, it reads: “BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj insults the national anthem!  Send her to jail for treason, Modi ji!  Otherwise, it will be assumed that you run two constitutions in the country, one for the common man, another for the BJP people?” View the post below:

FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to fact check this claim and found that it is misleading. The video is selectively edited and taken out of context. The full context reveals that Swaraj intervened to ensure that the anthem was sung properly in sync and completely once again in chorus.

To find the truth, we first conducted a keyword search with the phrase “BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj Bodh Gaya” to confirm her presence at the event. A report published by the Patna Press on 13 September, 2025 mentioned that “Bansuri will address the BJP Yuva Morcha’s Yuva Shankhnaad rally in Bodh Gaya, alongside Jamui MLA and former shooter Shreyasi Singh.” View a snippet of the report below:

After checking the comments and searching for an official response, we came across Bansuri Swaraj’s official X post. On 17 September, 2025 she had released a clarification with the complete video of 1:17 seconds. The post was captioned: सोशल मीडिया पर अधूरा वीडियो फैलाया जा रहा है। सच्चाई ये है कि मैंने आग्रह किया था कि राष्ट्रगान पूरा और सही ढंग से गाया जाए। यह पूरा वीडियो है जहाँ हमने गर्व और सम्मान के साथ पूरा राष्ट्रगान गाया।”

In English this reads: “An incomplete video is being circulated on social media. The truth is that I had insisted that the national anthem be sung in full and correctly. This is the complete video where we sang the full national anthem with pride and respect. View her official post here.

The full video, posted by Swaraj herself, shows her saying, “Please sing the national anthem completely and correctly together with repect,” after noticing some participants were not standing or singing in chorus.  This matches frames from video analysis, where she gestures for attention before resuming again.

The shared clip in the claimed video ends abruptly after Swaraj approaches the microphone purportedly showing that she is not respecting the national anthem. But the full clip reveals that Swaraj checked those who were not singing in chorus and not in sync. After her prompt, the group restarted singing the national anthem in chorus and completed it.

Hence the claim is Misrepresentation.
