A letter circulating on social media, bearing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) logo, claims that Dr. Akash Nag, Deputy Inspector General and Joint Director of the Crime Branch of CBI in Kolkata, resigned from his position because he felt unable to investigate the RG Kar hospital rape and murder case impartially and sought to withdraw from the probe due to “Political Manipulation and Social Influence.”

FACT-CHECK
A simple Google search for ‘Akash Nag’ revealed that the name is not to be found in the official IPS Civil list of the Government of India. Secondly, the claim showed an official rubber stamp in the name of ‘Ashok nag’ which has an eye-catching error — Nag has been used in a lower case unlike the upper case in the printout of the purported letter of resignation.
Further search showed that the CBI has termed the claim as fake and issued the official response on X as seen below:

The CBI on its X account said: “A fake letter in the name of a person named Dr. Akash Nag and claiming to be DIG (Deputy Inspector-General, Joint Director, Crime Branch, Kolkata, under the official banner ‘Central Bureau of Investigation, Office of the Deputy Inspector General, Anti-Corruption Branch, Kolkata’ and addressed to the Union Home Secretary is circulating on social media through WhatsApp, etc., about the case related to the rape and murder of a trainee doctor of RG Kar Hospital, Kolkata.”
Even the Press Information Bureau (PIB) has categorically debunked the claim citing the fact that there was no official by the name of Akash Nag.
