Following the announcement of Haryana election results where BJP won 48 seats and Congress came second with 37 seats on Oct 8, 2024, several claims have started circulating on social media taunting the state Congress leaders.
A video of Deepender Singh Hooda, a Congress MP from Rohtak and son of former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, went viral on social media, claiming that he was crying over the party’s poor performance in the elections.

FACT CHECK

Digiteye India, based on a request, checked for the veracity of the video. When we took key frames and conducted Reverse Image search on Google, the results showed that the video is actually from June 4, 2024, when Hooda was emotional after winning the Rohtak Lok Sabha seat. He had previously contested from the same seat in 2019 but lost by a narrow margin of 7,000 votes.

The original video on YouTube revealed the full version of the video when Hooda cried after winning the Lok Sabha seat by a margin of three lakh votes. A media report from June 5, 2024, confirms that Hooda’s victory led to a celebration at his home, where party workers gathered, prompting him to tear up.
