Several social media users have shared a video that allegedly captures former Indonesian President Joko Widodo visiting Triumala Temple in Andhra Pradesh. Verified X user ‘ocjain4’ shared such a post with the caption : इंडोनेशिया के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति जोको विडोडो तीर्थयात्रा के लिए आंध्र प्रदेश के तिरुमाला आए थे. इस बात की पुष्टि मंदिर अधिकारियों ने की है।इंडोनेशिया का हिंदू जुड़ाव पहले से ही गहरा है — बाली, रामायण, महाभारत, गरुड़, प्राचीन मंदिर। In English this reads : “Former Indonesian President Joko Widodo had visited Tirumala in Andhra Pradesh for pilgrimage. This has been confirmed by temple officials. Indonesia’s Hindu connection is already deep — Bali, Ramayana, Mahabharata, Garuda, ancient temples.” View the post below –

FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and fpund that it is false. The person seen in the video is not Widodo and there is no record of him visiting the temple. The Indonesian Embassy in New Delhi has repeatedly stated that the man in the footage is not former Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

We first conducted a web search with the phrase “Former Indonesian President Widodo visits Triumala for pilgrimage” to learn more. However, we did not find any credible evidence that suggests Widodo embarked on any such pilgrimage. Moreover, there is no news about this on Triumala Temple’s official website and news portal. The recent news discussed the annual Brahmotsavams, Balayam rituals at Sri Prasanna Venkateswara Swamy Temple and Garadu Vahanam held at Thondamanpuram among others. View an overview below –

Following this, we searched for any official clarification from the Indonesian Government or any other department wings. We came across several posts (here and here) by the Indonesian Embassy in New Delhi denying the claim. The post reads : The Embassy of Indonesia in New Delhi respectfully clarifies that the information shared is factually inaccurate. The Former President of Indonesia, Mr. Joko Widodo, has NEVER made a visit to the Lord Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala at any point during or after his term in office. View the post below

After conducting a reverse image search using several keyframes from the video, we were unable to identify its original source or the person shown. However, a review of former Indonesian President Widodo’s official social media accounts indicates that he was not in India at the time. On January 30, 2026, posts on his X account show that he met with the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Indonesia, Mr. Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri, and the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Indonesia, Mr. Marc Gerritsen.

The Indonesian local news ‘kaltimpost.jawapos‘ on Saturday, January 31, 2026 has reported about this incident with a photo wherethe caption reads as “A figure resembling Joko Widodo prayed in India and shocked Indonesian netizens”.See below the image and also a section of the report (Translated to English)

Thus, the claim is false.
