Did Musk post on X about suspension of accounts critical of Trump Administration? Fact-Check

A post is being shared widely on social media claiming that owner of X and billionaire Elon Musk posted a message that accounts protesting against U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration would be suspended from the X platform.

The claim reads: “Anyone protesting the Trump Administration will be suspended from X. All anti-Trump drama can go to a liberal echo chamber like Threads, Reddit, BlueSky, Instagram, and Facebook.”

The image was shared by many with claims such as, “So much for free speech” and “Free speech absolutist, wants you to know Twitter is now state run media.”

FACT-CHECK

As the claim is alarming and contrary to US free speech norms, Digiteye India checke for the authenticity of the claim. Firt of al the post in the image has no timestamp, but shows Musk’s profile image and handle, “@elonmusk.”

Further, the image has only a “follow” button where an authentic Musk post displays a “subscribe” button alongside the xAI logo in the top right corner. The comparison can be seen clearly here in the visual:

When we checked the official handle of Elon Musk, there was such post on his X account, nor any news reports on the development. It would have easily hit headlines had Musk shared such post on X officially. Hence, the claim is false.

Claim: Elon Musk posted on X stating all tweets critical of Musk Administration would be suspended.
Conclusion: Misleading. There is no evidence that Elon Musk shared a post saying X accounts critical of Trump Administration would be suspended.

Rating: Misleading —
