Did Nobel Prize committee permanently disqualify Trump after renaming US Defense Dept? Fact Check

Claim: Nobel Prize committee announces that Donald Trump has been permanently disqualified from all future awards due to his renaming of the US Defense Department as  “Department of War.”

Conclusion: The claim is false. The image is fake and fabricated, containing fake details of contact. Official Nobel Committee has never made any such announcement about disqualification of Trump for renaming the US Defense Department. Moreover Nobel committee never discloses or reveals any process before finalization.

Rating: Totally False — Five rating

Several social media users have recently shared a claim about Donald Trump being permanently disqualified from the Nobel Peace Prize. Verified X user ‘mjfree’ shared such a claim on 27 September, 2025.

The post contains an image purporting to be an Associated Press (AP) press release dated September 25, 2025, from Stockholm. It claims the Nobel Prize Committee (NPC) has permanently disqualified Donald J. Trump from all future awards due to his decision to rename the U.S. Department of Defense as the “Department of War,” labeling it a “grave breach of historical gravitas and semantic decorum.”

FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found that it is fake. No such official announcement has been made from the Nobel Prize organization. Even the Associated Press has not released any report on the issue.

We first conducted a web search with the phrases “NPC bars Trump accolade” or “Nobel Prize Committee disqualifies Trump” for reports. No credible reports by any media outlets exist, the only results are the same fake claim which appear to be going viral as memes.

Following this, we checked the official website of The Nobel Prize organization. No official announcements were posted and no press releases from September 2025 regarding Trump or disqualifications have been released. The press room section of the website focuses on upcoming October 2025 prize announcements.

We then checked the Associated Press website to search for that exact piece of news from 25 September, 2025. However, we found no articles or releases about the Nobel Committee barring Trump or any related renaming controversy.

The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded by the Norwegian Nobel Committee in Oslo, not Stockholm (which handles other prizes). The image’s attribution to “Stockholm (AP)” with a fictional contact “Hanz Zeemer” at “swisstimes.org” further indicates fabrication, as no such entity or person is associated with official Nobel or AP communications. Moreover, the Nobel Prize Organization clearly states “Nominations can only be made public at least 50 years after the nomination has taken place – so nominations for this year’s Nobel Prizes are a closely guarded secret.” View a screenshot of this :

The original X post includes the fabricated AP release image, but the author followed up minutes later admitting, “Ok so this is a joke but it’s too good not to share!” indicating it was shared satirically.

No such press release or piece of information was released by the Associated Press exists.

Thus, the claim is false.
