Football legend Cristiano Ronaldo was in news recently when he signed a deal with the Saudi Club Al Nassr after parting ways with Manchester United. Close on the heels of it, several claims have appeared in the social media and one such claimed Ronaldo giving an interview to a hijab-clad woman presenter with a claim that he said he loves Islam the most.
The viral picture carried a caption in Hindi: माशाल्लाह सऊदी अरब की इस #मुसलमान महिला ने क्रिस्टियानो रोनाल्डो से एक सवाल पूछा. #रोनाल्डो आप सबसे ज्यादा किससे प्यार करते हो, क्रिस्टियानो रोनाल्डो ने कहा, मैं #इस्लाम से प्यार करता हूं। #अल्लाहुअकबर (English translation: Mashallah! This Muslim woman from Saudi Arabia asked a question to Cristiano Ronaldo. #Ronaldo Who do you love the most, Cristiano Ronaldo said, I love #Islam. #Allah O Akbar)

FACT CHECK
The team at Digiteye India took it up for fact checking and found it to be totally false. A quick Reverse Image Search of the viral picture threw up results of an article on Expo 2020 Dubai in Gulf News, dated January 28, 2022 with a title: Fans enjoy fab time with Ronaldo at Expo 2020 Dubai, and it carried the same image that has gone viral now with a wrong claim.
The original interview of Ronaldo by Marjan Faraidooni, Chief Experience Officer at Dubai Expo 2022, did not carry any quote or saying by Ronaldo about his remarks on Islam. A further search on Youtube showed that the interview titled: Cristiano Ronaldo visits Expo 2020 Dubai, was published on an unverified channel named CR7 BOUND. In neither of the videos, Ronaldo had not given any statement related to Islam.
Hence, the purported video of Ronaldo was shared with a wrong claim.
Claim: Ronaldo said he loved Islam the most in the world.
Conclusion: Nowhere in the video did Ronaldo said he loved Islam the most in the world.
Rating: Totally False —
