FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and discovered that it is false. The 80th UNGA session proceeded as scheduled in New York, opening on September 9, 2025. While the U.S. did deny visas to Palestinian officials, prompting calls for relocation, no vote occurred to move the assembly.

The UN Spokesperson clarifies on X platform that there was no such vote in the General Assembly. See the post below.

We also checked an official report published by the United Nations confirms that the UNGA’s 80th session opened in New York on September 9, 2025. The report clearly states how the “President of the 80th session, H.E. Annalena Baerbock, opened the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly on 9 September 2025, at 3pm (local time in New York).”

Another report published by the Anadolu Ajansı News states how the UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric mentioned that no vote took place and there were no plans to move. According to Dujarric, he was “not aware of any preparations being made to move the General Assembly high-level session out of New York,” View a snippet from the report below –

On the other hand, an article published by Al Jazeera confirmed the gathering began in New York. View a snippet from the article below –

Thus, while visa denials were an issue with the Palestinian delegation, there is no such confirmation of relocation. The UNGA’s 80th session has already opened in New York and no such vote has taken place.

Hence the claim is totally false.
