Didn’t Congress field candidates in 2024 poll in Arunachal Pradesh fearing China? Fact Check

A social media post is being shared with a claim that the Congress party did not nominate any candidates for the forthcoming elections in Arunachal Pradesh due to concerns about upsetting China. It also tried to insinuate that Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra avoided entering Arunachal Pradesh for similar reasons.

FACT CHECK

Digiteye India earlier debunked the claim on Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay yatra avoiding Arunchal Pradesh earlier. So, we took up the claim for fact-checking again and found it to be untrue.

Arunachal Pradesh is slated for simultaneous Assembly and Lok Sabha elections on April 19, 2024, with 60 assembly and 2 Lok Sabha seats. The Congress party has, indeed, fielded candidates for both assembly and parliamentary constituencies. The announcement of candidates can be seen here.

Secondly, data accessible on the Election Commission website confirms that the Congress has nominated candidates for both parliamentary constituencies, and their candidatures have been approved.

 

Moreover, historical data on parliamentary elections in Arunachal Pradesh can be found on the Election Commission portal. Since 2004, the Congress party has consistently participated in every election, with candidate affidavits accessible for viewing.
