FACT CHECK
DigitEYE India decided to investigate the claim and discovered that the footage is misleading. While the Swedish Migration Agency has granted asylum to Palestinians in the past, the specific video in the claim is not related to that.
Upon conducting a reverse image search of keyframes from the video, we were taken to the Rawahel Charity Association’s TikTok video. The video was uploaded to TikTok on 11 July 2025 when the Palestinian national football team, the Canaan Lions were setting off to Europe. The video can be viewed (archived here)
The fabricated video has added a caption in Arabic which means “To Sweden”.
We then checked the instagram page of Rawahel Charity Association and found updates of their arrival in Europe. One such post can be found here which was uploaded on 24 June 2025 when the players arrived in Paris.
Another Instagram post from 5 July 2025 shows the team posing for a photo at the Saint-Germain Club, Paris. There are many such photos like this, including this facebook post by the team in front of the Eiffel Tower.
We also learned from an AFP report that the team, after their games in France, travelled to Sweden for the Gothia Cup. This was followed by their visit to Denmark for the Dana Cup and then for the Norway Cup.
According to an article by The National, the “Rawahel Charity Association’s Under-14 boys have embarked on a 46-day tour of Europe that takes in France, Sweden, Denmark and Norway. They have arrived in Paris for a training camp to prepare for more than 25 matches across three Scandinavian tournaments.”
The article also accounts for a comment by Ahmad Naalweh, the coach and club chairman who says, “Representing Palestine in international tournaments is both an honour and a source of great pride.” Here is another snippet from the article below:
Additionally, the community note attached to the X post was reviewed, stating that the video corresponds to the Palestinian soccer team traveling to attend international competitions.
Thus, the claim is misleading and the footage has been taken out of context to create a false narrative.
