FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found it to be false. The flags depicted belong to the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) which is a recognized political party in India. They are not associated with or representative of Pakistan or it’s national flag.

We first conducted a reverse image search to learn more about the context of the event. The search took us to a report by the Frontline Magazine which labels the photo from a different angle : “DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin campaigns after filing his nomination papers from Kolathur constituency ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly election, in Chennai, on March 30, 2026.” The report had no mention of Pakistani flags or any other references to Pakistan. View a section from the report below –

Following this, we compared the national flag of Pakistan to the flag in the claim. Pakistan’s national flag is dark green featuring a white vertical stripe at the hoist (left side), a white crescent moon, and a five-pointed star in the center. While the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) lacks an additional white vertical stripe along the hoist side and also the white crescent moon, and a five-pointed star are in opposite direction.  In the claim, the flag looks flipped probably due to open air.

Since this was a political rally, it was only natural for MK Stalin’s DMK party to have their alliances set up flags. We identified that the flag belonged to Indian Union Muslim League’s (IUML) , an official partner in the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA). We verified their flag on their Wikipedia page and other reports, confirming the flag is indeed different from Pakistan’s flag.

IUML has been a long standing alliance of DMK and is continuing this same support as per numerous reports this year too. No credible report from any mainstream outlet or election authority has verified the presence of actual Pakistani national flags at any DMK event.

Thus, the claim is false.
