Several social media users have shared a clip, allegedly claiming that it showcases Afghanistan playing India’s National Anthem. Verified X user ‘rightwingchora’ shared such a clip with the caption : What a beautiful thing on Internet. Afghanistan playing India’s national Anthem “Jan Gan Man”. Liberals gonna cry more” The post, which garnered over 167,000 views, attached a 29-second clip showing a large crowd standing respectfully as the Indian national anthem being played in front of a mosque as the Indian tricolour flag hoisted. DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found that it is false. The video is an old clip from Republic Day celebrations at Darul Uloom Deoband, an Islamic seminary located in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. Verified news reports and government sources confirm that the footage is unrelated to the recent West Asia crisis and is not from Afghanistan.
We first conducted a reverse image search from various keyframes on the video to learn more about the context. The search took us to an Instagram reel uploaded by user ‘inh24x7’ with the caption in Hindi : गणतंत्र दिवस के अवसर पर दारुल उलूम देवबंद में राष्ट्रीय ध्वज तिरंगा फहराया गया। इस मौके पर देशभक्ति और एकता का संदेश दिया गया, जिसकी तस्वीरें और वीडियो सोशल मीडिया पर चर्चा में हैं। In English this reads : On the occasion of Republic Day, the national flag, the tricolor, was hoisted at Darul Uloom Deoband.
