Goa accident today 23 bodies recovered 40 people rescued and 64 missing . Greed of the boat owner in overloading, over confidence of travellers too. Very sad, tragic. pic.twitter.com/nVW5OMCvgY

FACT CHECK
DigitEye India took few keyframes of the video and checked on Google Reverse Image Search but the results were surprising. The so-called tragic incident never happened in India but while the passenger boat was in the waters of Lake Kivu in Democratic Republic of Congo, Africa.
The overloaded boat was travelling from the town of Minova in South Kivu to Goma, NOT Goa of India as claimed in the social media posts. As per the local news reports, at least 78 were killed in the tragic boat mishap while several more are still missing.
The same was reported in India by the NewsOnAir as well giving details that the boat sank not withstanding the over-weight and high speed water currents, though it was less than one kilometer away from Kituku port. Reports say that that boat was built to carry only 80-90 people but 278 people were onboard leading to overload, causing the boat to sink.

Even the Goa Police clarified the same and posted it on socal media:
Official Clarification:
A video circulating on social media claims a boat capsized near Goa’s shores. This is false. The incident occurred in Goma, Congo, Africa. Please refrain from sharing unverified news.

Hence, the claim over a video showing a capsized boat as one off the shores of Goa is false.
Claim: Video claim showing a boat being capsized as an accident that happened off Goa shores, India.
Conclusion: Misrepresentation — The boat in video capsized in Goma of Africa, not Goa of India.
Rating: Misrepresentation —
