A CNN graphic comparing India and Pakistan’s losses in the post-Pahalgam conflict has been widely shared on social media claiming that Pakistan “won”. The claim reads: “Emotions aside, these are the real cold facts about this conflict. Clearly, Pakistan won overwhelmingly.” Titled “India-Pakistan Conflict Statistics”, the infographic shows the CNN news channel logo in the bottom-right corner.

FACT-CHECK
When we received a request for fact-checking the infographic on our WhatsApp tipline, we searched for the authentic infographic from the CNN since the visual carried a logo of CNN at the bottom-right corner. It was shared on May 13, two days after both India and Pakistan announced ceasefire. But nowhere could we find any CNN graphic on its official website, while a report clearly said no winner from the conflict.
When we searched further, AFP report clearly quoting a CNN spokesperson in a May 12 email, said: “CNN at no point reported this information.” Nor was any such graphic shared by CNN on its website or on its social media platforms.
India’s official PIB fact-checking unit has categorically called the graphic a fake and fabricated one as seen below:
🚨An infographic is doing the rounds on social media with @CNN‘s logo#PIBFactCheck
✅This infographic is #fake and part of the propaganda campaign.
✅#CNN never ran any such story or infographic comparing losses #IndiafightsPropaganda pic.twitter.com/srlYVUf3Xu

Moreover, the figures in the graphic clearly do not match the official figures. As per the chart, 40 Indians died in the fighting — 21 soldiers and 19 civilians and the death toll in Pakistan was 14 — one soldier and 13 civilians. But, on May 14, Pakistan’s army announced 40 civilians and 11 military service members had been killed, while India said 16 civilians and five soldiers died on its side.
Hence, the claim in the infographic is false and CNN logo was misrepresented in the graphic.
Claim: CNN Infographic shows Losses from the Pakistan-India conflict.
Conclusion: Misrepresentation. CNN denied to have posted any such infographic and figures do not match official numbers.
Rating: Misrepresentation —
