Has $41 billion climate fund gone missing from World Bank under Ajay Banga? Fact Check

A post on social media alleging fraud under the leadership of Indian-origin World Bank Governor Ajay Banga. The post featuring a graphic that reads “Make NZ Kiwi Again” showed the images of Banga and NZ Prime Minister Christopher Luxon at an event as well.

The claim reads: “A staggering $41 billion has gone missing from the globalist World Bank’s Climate Change fund under the watch of Ajay Banga…yet another influential Sikh in a position of great power.”

Further search revealed that the original claim was made by New Zealand Christian preacher Brian Tamaki, also founder of the political party by name Freedoms NZ on Facebook. Here’s the full text of the claim by Tamaki”:

“Is Luxon buddies with the Banga brothers?

🌎💰A staggering $41 billion has gone missing from the globalist World Bank’s Climate Change fund under the watch of Ajay Banga…yet another influential Sikh in a position of great power.

Oxfam has announced the news this week, that there is no public record detailing where the money went or how it was spent.

Ajay Banga is the World Bank President and also board member of the World Economic Forum. Ajay Banga hails from a proud Sikh family in India.

The World Bank is supposedly a 189-nation poverty-fighting organisation…Yeah right! Not when 40% of the climate change money is now unaccounted for when investigated by Oxfam. Most of the money paid into this fund is from rich Western Countries…that are getting ripped off.

There are unverified reports that this missing money will now be used to undermine Western countries’ democracies.

New Zealand contributed at least $33 million in 2023 to the World Bank through Pacific projects. How much of our money has gone missing?

If climate change wasn’t already enough of a scam! Jokes on you fools!

Banga was also appointed by Joe Biden, that says it all really!

Banga’s older brother is Manvinder “Vindi” Singh Banga, who started at Unilever in 1989, becoming the CEO of Hindustan Unilever, and then global head from 2005 to 2010. Is it a coincidence PM Chris Luxon worked at Unilever too from 1993, going on to become President and CEO of Unilever Canada, ending in 2013 when he returned to NZ to become Air NZ’s CEO? Luxon has made no secret of the fact he spent a lot of his Unilever working life visiting India. Is Luxon buddies with the Banga brothers?

Luxon has also made no secret of his relentless mission to build stronger ties between India and New Zealand.

This further undermines trust in these global entities that globalists like Luxon, Seymour & Peters continue to support. I don’t hold out much hope, though, that they’ll correct the errors of their ways, as Winston continues to support UNRWA despite credible intel that proves their terrorist connections.

NZ needs to break free from these global entities and their control.

No More Global Control!

FACT-CHECK

When Digiteye India received a request to fact check the claim, the team realised that the claim contained several allegations and hence, decided to take up one by one.

The main claim says that $41 billion has gone missing from the World Bank’s Climate Change fund under the watch of Ajay Banga, and that Oxfam has announced the news this week, that there is no public record detailing where the money went or how it was spent.”

When we checked for authenticity on Google search about Oxfam’s report, we found Tamaki’s reference was to Oxfam’s Climate Finance Unchecked report which covered the 2017/18 to 2022/23 financial years, focusing on projects initiated before Ajay Banga’s tenure at the World Bank. His term started from June 2023.

Secondly, Oxfam’s report did not allege any mismanagement of funds due to corruption or waste but it was concerned about the World Bank’s reporting process for deviations in planned and actual ‘climate finance’.

“This distinction is significant,” Oxfam’s spokesperson told AAP FactCheck. “Oxfam’s report doesn’t suggest funds are missing but points to a transparency issue that makes it difficult to know precisely what the Bank is delivering in terms of climate finance: where it’s going and what it’s supporting… Knowing this is crucial for tracking the real impact of climate funding and holding institutions accountable.” Hence, the extrapolation made by Tamaki that the fund was missing was false.

Claim: A staggering $41 billion has gone missing from the globalist World Bank’s Climate Change fund under the watch of Ajay Banga.

Conclusion: Totally False. Oxfam’s Climate Finance Unchecked report covered the 2017/18 to 2022/23 financial years, much before Ajay Banga’s tenure started at the World Bank.

Rating: Totally False — Five rating
