FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found that it is false. While Greta Thunberg and other activists were detained by Israel, no such official warning has been released by Sweden. There has been no reports by any media outlets regarding a Swedish ultimatum.

On 2nd October, 2025 Israeli naval forces intercepted vessels from the Global Sumud Flotilla in the Mediterranean, detaining hundreds of activists, including Thunberg. The flotilla, comprising around 40 boats and 500 participants, aimed to deliver aid to Gaza amid ongoing conflict. Thunberg, aboard one ship, was transferred to Israel for deportation proceedings. According to the above report by BBC, the Israeli forces had warned the boat as they were “approaching an active combat zone and violating a lawful naval blockade,” No injuries were reported.

Another report by BBC published on October 4, 2025 gives details on the release. The report states Israeli foreign ministry’s comments on Friday : “Already four Italian citizens have been deported. The rest are in the process of being deported. Israel is keen to end this procedure as quickly as possible.”

Following this detention, Greta Thunberg released a video post-detention, urging her government and the international community to demand the activists’ release and condemn Israel’s actions. She says: “I have been abducted and taken against my will by Israeli forces.. Please tell my government to demand my and the others’ immediate release.” View the footage of this on the Youtube channel of Associated Press

We then checked the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs press releases from October 1-3, 2025. There were no mentions of Thunberg, Israel, or any ultimatum. No related announcements appear on Israeli government sites either. View a screenshot of the press release page below –

Web searches with phrases like “Swedish warning to Israel over Greta Thunberg” did not yield any reports. While media houses like a report by Sky News covering protests over this incident, no reference to a Swedish warning has been mentioned.

As of now, there has been no warnings or any ultimatums by the Swedish Government to the Israeli forces. Thus, the claim is false.
