FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found it to be totally false. It turned out to be part of an April Fools’ stunt that started on April 1 2026 by users and stretched into the days after. Sharing video posts via copied links on X was never affected and continues to work normally.

We first manually checked whether it was possible to copy a link of a video on X after checking the claim. The settings clearly show that it is possible to copy the link and share it with anyone. Moreover, X also allows a person to embed a post and share it alongside the link. View a screenshot of the ‘copy link’ option below –

Next, we conducted a web search with the phrase “X removes copy link for video” to learn more about the issue. According to a report by News18, such posts “fetched millions of views overnight was allegedly nothing but an April Fool’s Day prank,” The report also notes how it “does feel like an April Fool’s day joke that has been set up for engagement on the platform” View a section from the report below –

Official X support pages continue to instruct users to tap the Share icon on any post (video or otherwise) and select “Copy link”. No removal or restriction of this feature is mentioned and X has not announced anything. On both mobile apps and web, users can still copy the post URL. View a screenshot of the instructions below –

Thus, the claim is totally false.
