Hours after Air India Flight 171 crash at Ahmedabad, video of inside scene surfaces; Fact Check

Within hours after the tragic crash of London-bound Air India flight AI171, carrying 242 passengers and crew, minutes after taking off from the Ahmedabad airport on June 12 has triggered numerous claims. Among them one video claiming to have been filmed inside just minutes before the crash is being shared on social media.

The video shows passengers inside a plane, while one person was trying to film the view outside. But soon, the plane loses control and triggers panic among the passengerd, before ending in a crash with smoke and fire caught in the camera.

Sharing the video on X, one user wrote Hindi: “23 सैकेंड का ये विडीओ जिसमें सब कुछ एक सैकेंड में बदल गया, कैसे हंसी भरी विडियो एकदम से चीखों में बदल गईं। Prayers for all passenger! Death is so unpredictable! ओम् शांति.” [Translated, it reads: “This 23 second video in which everything changed in a second, how a funny video suddenly turned into screams. Prayers for all passengers! Death is so unpredictable! Om Shanti  Om shanti.”

FACT-CHECK

Digiteye India received a request on its WhatsApp Tipline and checked for the authenticity of the video. Taking keyframes from the video and performing Google Reverse Image, the results showed that the video was from 2023 when Nepal’s Yeti Airlines crashed in Himalayas.

See the original video which had gone viral in 2023. Several news reports covered the accident confirming that it the footage was shot inside a Yeti Airlines flight that crashed in Pokhara, Nepal, on January 15, 2023, before its crash.

Yeti Airlines flight 691, which departed from Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport on January 15, crashed into the Seti River gorge, located between the old and new airports in Pokhara, in which more than 70 people, including five Indians, were killed. Hence, the claim that it was the footage of AI-171 that crashed near Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025 is false.

Conclusion: Misrepresentation. The video depicts footage shot inside a Yeti Airlines flight that crashed in Pokhara, Nepal, on January 15, 2023.
