Soon after the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee announced J.D. Vance as the vice Presidential nominee on July 15, 2024, a video started making rounds on social media claiming that chants of “India-India” were heard. The delegates at the convention welcomed both J.D. Vance and his Indian-origin wife Usha Chilukuri.

In this context, the claim in the video said that these chants were raised as Vance brought his wife to the convention. An X user wrote, “‘India India’ chants as JD Vance brings soon-to-be second lady Usha Chilukuri into the RNC convention. The new Republican Party. It just keeps getting better.”

FACT-CHECK

When Digiteye India team scanned the video of the Republican convention, uploaded by Forbes on July 15. At the 03:00 hrs timestamp of the video, the US band Sixwire was performed when Vance’s nomination was announced. See below:

No chants of “India-India” can be heard in the video as claimed in the social media post. Hence, the video’s sound track has been altered to claim that the delegates were chanting ‘India-India’ at the convention.
