Following the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill on April 5, 2025, several protests were held across the country while in Murshidabad, West Bengal, the demonstrations turned into communal violence, allegedly resulting in the deaths of three persons — a Hindu father-son duo allegedly killed in a communal confrontation and a Muslim man who died from gunshot wounds during police firing.
Soon after the Murshidabad violence hit the headlines, a video started showing up on social media showing a helmeted man with a handgun receiving what appears to be a bullet from another individual. The post can be accessed on X (formerly Twitter) here and the claim said the video depicted the violence taking place in Murshidabad.
This video will show you the condition of West Bengal.

The same video has been shared here with a claim that it was happening in Bengal.
FACT-CHECK
When Digiteye India received a request on its WhatsApp tipline, the team took it up for scrutiny. When key frames of the video were placed on Google Reverse Image Search, the results showed a video that was uploaded by Bangladesh-based news outlet Somoy National on July 17, 2024. The title of the video in Bengali translates to: “Who is this young man brandishing a weapon on a public road in Chattogram?” See the full version of the original video here:
When tagged to geolocation from the video, it showed to 70 Hathazari Rd, Chattogram, Bangladesh, thus confirming that the video clipping was from Bangladesh and not from Murshidabad, West Bengal, and that it’s an old video from July 2024. Hence, the claim is false.
Claim: Helmeted man wielding a handgun during the Murshidabad violence in West Bengal.
Conclusion: Misrepresentation. The video clipping is from July 2024 video from Bangladesh and not from Murshidabad.
Rating: Misrepresentation —
