A WhatsApp post is going viral with the claim that Vadilal ice cream adds beef flavour to its products manufactured as the package shows Halal Mark Certification.
(What is Halal Mark Certification — Halal is derived from Arabic that means “permissible” and it refers to things or acts that are legal according to the Islamic law. Because of this, halal Certification lets people know that a business or product follows the rules and regulations about food in the Quran. Halal Certification isn’t just for food but also applies to several goodas and services such as makeup, medicines, and banking, among other things.)
Posts claims “Vadilal in India is promoting “Halal”ceritfied ice creams. Why are ice creams Halal?”
“Rajesh ‘Gandhi’ is the Chairman and Mr. Devanshu ‘Gandhi’ is the Managing Director for Vadilal.”

FACT-CHECK
When Digiteye India team searched for more information about Vadilal Icecream on social media and their LinkedIn profile pages, we came across the clarification from Vadilal manufacturer denying the viral claim. Refuting the claim, the company gave a clarification in their LinkedIn page.
As per their clarification, Halal certified packages are meant for export and this certification is required as per the export industry standards. These products are not to be sold in India, said the company in its statement. Further, the packaging shows a green dot, which indicates that the product is 100% vegetarian. Hence the claim is false.
