Old video of Muslim man wearing turban at Moosewala’s funeral passed off as that of farmers’ protests 2024

A social media post is being shared with a hint that Muslim men are joining the farmers’ protest at the Delhi border in the guise of Sikh farmers. The claim shows a video of a Muslim man taking off his skull cap and putting on a Sikh turban in the midst of a large gathering. The caption reads: “Abdul in the guise of Sikh. That’s the reality behind #farmerprotests2024. Disgusting!” See the post here:

The same video clip was shared here and here.

Fact Check

When the Digieye India team checked the video, the text written in Gurmukhi on posters behind it read: “Brother Sidhu Moosewala’s final prayer.” It may be recalled that Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala was killed on May 29, 2022, near his village in Punjab. When we searched with key frames on Google Reverse Image Search, we found the original video posted on Facebook on June 12, 2022, by a Facebook page titled, “Sardarian Trust Punjab”.

The page contained the same man in the viral video, and the poster of Moosewala can be seen behind, showing enough similarities to conclude that the video was related to “Moosewala’s final prayer,”  where the Sardariaan Trust provided Turbans for Hindus and Muslims to wear for the funeral. Moosewala’s final prayer was held on June 8, 2022 at the singer’s hometown in Punjab, and it was attended by thousands, as news reports said.

Hence, the video currently being shared on Twitter has nothing to do with the ongoing “Delhi Chalo” protests at the border of the national capital.

Claim: Video showing a Muslim wearing a Sikh turban with a claim that Muslims are participating in Farmers’ Protests 2024.
Conclusion: False. An old video from Punjabi singer Moosewala’s funeral where Hindus and Muslims were provided turbans has been used to claim that Muslims are behind farmers’ protests in 2024.

Rating: Misrepresentation —
