Old video on accepting massacre of Kashmiri Pandits resurfaces; Fact Check

A video of a young man stating about Kashmiri Pandits is going viral on social media. In the video, people say that they have seen the slaughter of Kashmiri Pandits. And the young man is saying that we should accept the mistakes made earlier. See the video here:

जम्मू कश्मीर के मुस्लिम से सुनिए कश्मीरी पंडितों के नरसंहार की सच्चाई ये जम्मू कश्मीर का मुस्लिम है जिसने पाकिस्तान के टीवी चैनल पर पूरी नरसंहार की कहानी बताई जिन्हें The kashmir files प्रोपोगंडा लगती थी उन्हें वीडियो टैग करे.” (Translated, it reads: “Listen to the truth about the massacre of Kashmiri Pandits from a Muslim of Jammu and Kashmir This is a Muslim from Jammu and Kashmir who told the whole story of the massacre on a Pakistani TV channel Those who thought The Kashmir Files was propaganda, tag the video.”

The man seen in the video is saying that he has seen the slaughter of Kashmiri Pandits. “The people killed were not killing any Kashmiri Muslim, they were unarmed. What is it if it is not a massacre? Those who killed Kashmiri Pandits were with us. Those who have made mistakes in the past, have to accept that those mistakes have happened.”

While sharing the video, some users have claimed that it is of the Pakistani TV channel, in which the young man living in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) has told about the atrocities on Kashmiri Pandits.

FACT-CHECK

When we searched on Google Reverse Image Search with key frames from the video, we hit upon a video with ANN News logo is on the same viral video. Further search on YouTube revealed that this video uploaded on 15 March 2022 on YouTube channel ‘Kashmir’. The description reads, “Kashmiri Muslims are equally responsible for killing Kashmiri Pandits during 1990- Javed Baig, political activist”.

The viral video has a logo of ANN News, which is Alimi News Network (ANN News), a TV news channel of Jammu and Kashmir in India. The young man has been identified as Javed Baig, a resident of Gulmarg. ANN News Editor-in-Chief Tariq Bhat confirmed to the media that it is a Kashmir based news channel.

The old video is being shared with the wrong claim as current one and as a PoK-based TV news channel. Hence, the claim is false.

Claim: News clip shows a man saying that they have seen the slaughter of Kashmiri Pandits and that the Kashmiri Muslims should accept the mistakes made earlier.

Conclusion: The video of a young man talking about the harassment of Kashmiri Pandits is not of the Pakistani media channel, but from India. The young man seen in it is also from India, not PoK.
