Old video surfaces as India’s attack on Kirana Hills with radiation risk; Fact Check

A video showing a powerful explosion is circulating online with claims that it captures an Indian Army strike on Pakistan’s Kirana Hills, a region often linked to the country’s military installations.

Located in Pakistan’s Sargodha district, Kirana Hills is believed to house several underground tunnels, with widespread speculation suggesting that these tunnels are used for the storage of Pakistan’s nuclear warheads.

It was shared in the context of recent strikes by India under “Operation Sindoor”. The Hindi caption accompanying the video reads: “किराना हिल्स पाकिस्तान”. Translated, it reads: “Kirana Hills Pakistan (Radiation Risk),” suggesting alarm after India’s attacks. It has been shared here and here.

FACT-CHECK

When our team checked for the original video with the help of key video frames and performing a Google Reverse Image, we found that the video was as old as May 2015, when it was shared in the context of an airstrike in Yemen. It was linked to a series of attacks in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa.

See the video uploaded by Armalex in a compilation of 2015 war in Yemen after Saudi Arabia’s airstrikes.

Secondly, Google news search on Kirana Hills radiation leak yielded results that the UN body International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) clearly clarified to the media that there had been no signs of any radiation release from nuclear facilities in Pakistan.

Hence, the video being shared on social media is false and so is the claim on radiation leak.

Claim: Video shows India’s missile attack on Kirana Hills in Pakistan that resulted in nuclear radiation leak.
Conclusion: Misrepresentation. The video is from May 2015 following Saudi Arabia’s attack on Yemen. IAEA refuted nucelar radiation claims.

Rating: Misrepresentation —
