Video clip shows women and children sleeping in the open claiming it’s in Gaza; Fact Check

A video is going viral on social media showing many people sleeping in an open ground with a claim that says it’s from Gaza. It reads Gaza women and children are sleeping in the open after their homes were bombed. See the Twitter post here:

The same post has been shared here with a different claim:

“It’s going wild here. There was no place to sleep last night अब तो छत भी नहीं है इस ठंड में सर पे..अल्लाह रहम फरमा.. #PalestineGenocide The condition of #GazaCity #Water4Gaza #GazaCity #Isarael #FreePalestine_Now #StopGazaGenocide #FreePaleastine.”

FACT CHECK

When Digiteye India fact-checked the video with the keyframes, a video on YouTube channel called Solo Catecumenos surfaced and it was uploaded on August 2023, when the Israeli-Hamas Conflict was not there. It was since Oct 7, 2023 that the conflict between Israelis and Hamas hit headlines with several videos from the ground flooding the social media.

The original video description in English reads:“This is how the million and a half young people spent the night in #Lisbon #Lisbon2023 #WYD2023.” WYD stands for the World Youth Day. The same has been reported in local news and France 24 reported that on August 6, 2023, over 1.5 million people reportedly gathered at Tejo Park in Lisbon on August 5 to participate in World Youth Day presided over by Pope Francis. The event lasted from August 1 to 6, with young Catholics from around the world arriving on August 5, planning to spend the night until the final mass on Sunday. The Pope made his appearance in the ‘Popemobile’ shortly after 19:00 GMT for this prayer vigil that resembled a giant festival.

Hence the video and the claim are entirely different.

Claim: Video claims “No place to sleep in Gaza” and people are sleeping in the open.
Conclusion: False, old video from World Youth Day which took place in Lisbon passed off as from Gaza.
Rating: Totally False — Five rating
