Video of farmers filling trench claimed as digging road for tractors to enter Delhi; Fact Check

A video is being shared on Twitter showing some people digging a trench so that a tractor can drive through it. The claim was that the protesting farmers at the Delhi border were making a way for tractors since authorities had blocked all the roads to Delhi to hold a protest in the national capital.

Several posts have been posted showing the tractor with the same claim as seen here and here.

FACT CHECK

The Digiteye India team received a request to fact-check the claim in the context of the farmers’ protest at Delhi borders. When the team took out key frames of the video keyframes using InVID and checked them on Google Reverse Image Search, the results showed that the video was one week older than the farmers’ protest began on February 13, 2024 at the Delhi border. The incident was related to a pipeline being laid down near the town of Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda, Punjab. Here’s the link to the original video.

The video was uploaded on YouTube by a local Mewa Sangat channel on February 7, 2024, six days before the farmers began ‘Delhi Chalo’ and the farmers were seen filling the trench for a domestic gas pipeline in Bathinda’s Koreana village. The farmers union Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Ekta Sangrahan refused to allow the company to lay the final few sections of the pipeline unless landowners were compensated first. The caption read:” Bharti Kisan Union Ekta Ugrahan filling the trench of Lelewala gas pipeline”.

Here are some local reports related to the incident.

Hence, an unrelated video was shared on social media claiming that the protesting farmers at Delhi border are digging a road to enter the national capital.
