Viral video claims a truck carrying rocket while crossing bridge; Fact Check

A video of a truck carrying a rocket and crossing a bridge is going viral on social media. The video claims that the footage shows the work that has gone behind making Chandrayaan-3 a success. It has gone viral on social media and on WhatsApp.

The message that has been attached to the claim reads,

“अंतरिक्ष के प्रोजेक्ट सफल बनाने मे वैज्ञानिकों के अलावा बहुत लोगो का योगदान होता है। छोटी सी भूल से ही हजारों करोड़ों रुपए स्वाहा हो सकते हैं। आप इस ट्रक ड्राइवर की मनोदशा का अंदाजा लगाएं। जब वह यह कर रहा होगा, सांसें रोक देने वाला वीडियो।”

[Translation: Apart from scientists, many people contribute to making space projects successful. Thousands of crores of rupees can be lost if someone makes a small mistake. You can imagine the state of mind of this truck driver. The video will take your breath away.]

The video has also been shared on Twitter with the same claim. You can see it here, here, and here.

Digiteye India received a fact check request to verify the claims made in this viral message and to check if the video is authentic or not.

FACT CHECK

The Digiteye India team used inVid – a video verification tool – to divide the video into multiple keyframes. We used these keyframes and ran a reverse image search on Google. We found multiple people who have shared this video with the same claim on YouTube as well.

When we dug deeper to check if the video was authentic or not, we came across this video on Facebook. Shared by a user on April 2, 2023. The video shows the same visuals and has been captioned, “Emergency bridge technology is very helpful when in a situation like this.”

The video had a watermark which read, “Jim Natelo.” We searched for Jim Natelo on Google and found out that he is a gamer who posts simulation videos on his page. We took screenshots of the video and searched it using keywords and his name. The results revealed that the video is from a game called Spintires: MudRunner.

We looked for more such videos on Jim Natelo’s profile and saw other videos from the same game which had the same graphics. However, this video was not available on his profile. We checked on YouTube and found this video which had the same visuals as the one shared in the viral message. The YouTube video clearly mentioned that it is from a game. Moreover, there is no ISRO logo or India written on the rocket shown in the video.

Hence, the claim made by the viral video is false.

CLAIM: A viral video shows a truck carrying a rocket and transporting it over a bridge. The video claims that it is an ISRO rocket.

CONCLUSION: The video is from a game called Spintires: Mudrunner and it shows a new hack that can be used in the game.

RATING: Misrepresentation —
