Was Tamil actor Vijay’s TVK party office demolished after his Iftar party? Fact Check

A video circulating on social media claims that the office of Tamil actor-politician Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), was demolished following controversy over his attendance at an Iftar party. The video shows a building demolition, featuring a wall painted with Vijay’s image and TVK’s party colors.

The caption in Hindi reads: “ये देख लो जालीदार टोपी पहनने का नतीजा। जो लोग आपको सर पर प्यार से बिठा सकते हैं वो आपको गिरा भी सकते हैं।” [Translated, it reads: Look at the result of wearing a net cap. Those who can love you can also bring you down.”

The video is being circulated with claims that the demolition occurred in response to allegations that Vijay insulted religious sentiments during the Iftar gathering. A caption within the video, written in Hindi, suggests that the demolition happened because Vijay’s fans were unhappy with him wearing a skull cap at the event.

The controversy stemmed from allegations that Vijay’s Iftar party was poorly organized and disrespected religious sentiments. According to a report by Tanthi, a complaint was filed against him, accusing him of insulting the religious sentiments of the Muslim community during the gathering.

FACT-CHECK

When Digiteye India took key frames of the video and conducted a Google Reverse Image Search, the team found that the video was an old one uploaded on February 19, 2025 by News Tamil 24×7 and titled: “#Justin | தவெக அலுவலகம் இடிப்பு | TVK office | Thiruvallur | TVK office Demolish |”

The report clearly states that the building was demolished in February 2025 due to illegal encroachment on a national highway in Thiruvallur. However, Ramadan fasting in India began on March 1, 2025, and Vijay hosted the Iftar party on March 7, 2025. This timeline confirms that the video predates the event, making the claim false.

Claim: Vijay’s party office demolished as fans did not like him wearing a skull cap at the Iftar gathering.

Conclusion:  Misleading. The viral video actually shows the demolition of the TVK youth office in Thiruvallur on February 18, 2025, carried out due to illegal encroachment. It has no connection to Vijay’s Iftar party, which took place later on March 7, 2025.

Rating: Misleading –
