Was Trump removed from the list of 2025 Nobel Peace Prize nominees? Fact Check

Claim : US President Donald Trump was removed from the list of Nobel Peace Prize nominees.

Conclusion :The claim is totally false. Trump was nominated by few and announced publicly by them. Whereas the list of nominees receievd by Norwegian Nobel Committee is not made public from where you can see Trump being removed from the list since  the list remains confidential for 50 years.

Rating : Totally false — Five rating

Social media users have claimed that US President Donald Trump was removed from the list of Nobel Peace Prize nominees. Verified X user ‘GyanJaraHatk’ made such a post, claiming that “Trump removed from a list of Nobel Peace Prize nominees: source,” accompanied by laughing emojis and a photo depicting former President Donald Trump with tears streaming down his face. This post appears to mock Trump amid him not getting the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. The post gained over 10,400 views and can be seen below –

Silimar claims were made in Sep 2025 and in Oct 2025 as seen below:

Notably, the Nobel Peace Prize 2025 was awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado “for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”

FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found that it is totally false. There is no publicly available list of nominees as nominatios once submitted goes for the perusal of the Norwegian Nobel Committee and those records remain sealed for 50 years. The Commitee has not outlined any steps to cancel or retract it.

Details:

We first conducted a web search with the phrase “Can nominees be removed from the Nobel Peace Prize list?” to learn more. According to the official Nobel Peace Prize website, the “ statutes of the Nobel Foundation restrict disclosure of information about the nominations, whether publicly or privately, for 50 years.”

Furthermore, this “restriction concerns the nominees and nominators, as well as investigations and opinions related to the award of a prize.” Therefore, the committee itself never publicly releases or confirms any nominees, though  some persons who nominated Trump for the peace prize can make it public.  View a screenshot of this section below –

Following this, we did not find any information or provision for the committee to withdraw, remove or disqualify valid nominations post-submission. After the February 1 deadline, the committee reviews the list, may add names, then closes nominations for assessment. In October, “the Nobel Committee chooses the Nobel Peace Prize laureates through a majority vote. The decision is final and without appeal.” There is no step in the selection procedure that allows the committee to disqualify a candidate after this. More Information can be found here.

While committee’s removal of nomination is not supported, nominators may retract their own submissions. For example, in June 2025, Ukrainian MP Oleksandr Merezhko withdrew Trump’s nomination for Nobel over Russia policy concerns. On the other hand, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces Asim Munir among others have supported Trump. Therefore, these nominations of the candidate are individual actions, not committee decisions and there is no way to prove that Trump was removed. View a list of candidates who nominated Trump below –

As for the image, shared in the claim, we checked it through an AI detector to check its authenticity. The results proved that this image is 99.9% likely AI or deepfake content. Check the results below –

Qualified nominators (as outlined by Norwegian Nobel Committee) can nominate an eligible person for peace prize and can announce their nominations publicly but the Committee itself does not announce the names of nominees, neither to the media nor to the candidates themselves.

In so far as certain names crop up in the advance speculations as to who will be awarded any given year’s prize, this is either sheer guesswork or information put out by the person or persons behind the nomination.

Thus, the claim is totally false.
