Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) Ramesh Bidhuri has been in the news. In September this year, he had hit headlines when he abused a Bahujan Samaj Party leader during a parliamentary discussion. Since then, numerous claims attributed to him have gone viral online. This time a statement made by this MP is doing rounds on social media.
An image of a newspaper clipping has gone viral on social media. The image claims that Ramesh Bidhuri has said that people who have migrated from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar should be driven away from Delhi. In the image, a quote has also been attributed to Bidhuri. It states,
(Translation: It is the people who have come from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar who have made Delhi hell. These people do all the wrong things from theft to spoiling the environment of Delhi.)
Digiteye India received a fact-check request on WhatsApp to check the veracity of this news clipping.
FACT CHECK
The Digiteye India team checked the newspaper clipping to see if we could ascertain the date of the article. However, the article was undated. We ran a Reverse Image Search on Google using the viral news clip to find more details. The results led us to multiple tweets where people have shared the same image with a similar claim.
We conducted a keyword search on Google using relevant keywords. None of the results led us to any news organization which had carried this report. We dug around for more on X (formerly, Twitter) to see if any of the BJP leaders had made this exact statement.
In one of the tweets dating back to October 13, 2018, we found this statement made by Ramesh Bidhuri. The MP had shared the same news clipping and had called it false. In a series of three tweets, he said, “How far can people fall in the greed for power, I just got information that on social media, a statement was made in my name for the residents of UP and Bihar, while neither the name of any newspaper nor the name of the publisher was given, such a newspaper was published on June 25 also.”
The MP said that the news clipping was fake and was planted by those in opposition.
(1/3) pic.twitter.com/nBpNTmlm46

The official handle of BJP Delhi also shared a similar tweet with the same image where they called this news fake. They tweeted, “Delhi BJP denies this news that is being spread on social media by some anti-social elements. This news is completely false and baseless and is being spread as part of a well-planned conspiracy by those who want to divide society for their politics. It has no connection with the BJP or any of its leaders.” The tweet was made on October 13, 2018.
pic.twitter.com/nmeTlGKag4
