Viral video claims new rail track machines being used in India now; Fact Check

A short viral video of a tamping machine is placing railway sleepers as it moves, is being shared on social media with a claim stating, “ये हैं आज के भारत की टेक्नोलॉजी। जिसे विगत 60 वर्षों में सरकार लांच नहीं कर सकी क्योंकि भारत की जनता के टैक्स का पैसा स्विस बैंक में जमा किया जा रहा था।

जय श्रीराम”

[Translated it reads: This is India’s technology now compared to the last 60 years since, that time all the tax payers’ money was diverted and deposited in Swiss Banks]” It is being shared on Twitter (X) here and here. It showed machines of ‘China Communications Construction’ laying the railway line.

 

FACT CHECK

Digiteye India team took it up for fact-checking as it looked unfamiliar. Using the keyframes from the video, the team checked it Google Reverse Image Search and the results showed about an article that had posted the video last year on Dec. 12, 2023 pertaining to Malaysia.

It was published on the website ‘News.CN’ about the East Coast Rail Link road works being underway in the city of Kuantan in Malaysia. It was being constructed by the ‘China Communications Construction Company’. Further search on Google News revealed that the original video was uploaded by China Press on its Facebook page. The details show that the railway line in Kuantan has been part of the China-Malaysia joint project.

Claim: Video of railway track laying machine with a claim that India’s technology now is far better compared to last sixty years.

Conclusion: False. The viral video showing how India is building new railways with advanced technology was from Malaysia where China Communications Construction is building a railway line.
