FACT CHECK
DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found that it is false. No official statements, policy documents, or credible reports support the claim. Mamdani’s campaign emphasized expanding affordable housing and addressing NYC’s homelessness crisis but did not speak about taking over the iconic Trump Tower.
We began by reading the report mentioned in the comment section of the post published by Pamphlets. The article mentions how “Empty hotels and abandoned corporate properties are being considered for conversion.” There is no mention of Trump Tower and the article does not seem to offer credible news. Following this, we searched for any official statement by Mamdani on taking over Trump Tower. Public records, campaign materials, and post-election interviews, but found no mention of Trump Tower or any particular domain for shelters. Other accounts spreading such a claim also lack any attributable quote or proposal.
Next, we learned about Mamdani’s proposed housing stance for 200,000 new affordable units via incentives. From a report published on Zohran For NYC, Mamdani’s housing plan centers on a major public sector revival, aiming to “triple the City’s production of publicly subsidized, permanently affordable, union-built, rent-stabilized homes” and create 200,000 new units over the next 10 years.
He commits to doubling investment in public housing, saying disinvestment has left NYCHA tenants with crumbling buildings and uncertain futures. The plan fast-tracks 100 percent affordable projects and steers city agencies toward building for those who earn less than $70,000 a year. View a section of the report below:

Trump Tower, a private commercial property owned by the Trump Organization, cannot be unilaterally converted by a mayor as per the rules. Moreover, NYC Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has not made such a promise nor initiated any action toward it.
Thus the claim is false.
