Does this video show Greta Thunberg demanding the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar in October in London? Fact Check

Claim: A video allegedly shows Greta Thunberg joining an Indian protest in London against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

Conclusion: The claim is misleading. The video shows older footage from July 26, 2026, not a protest in October 2026 against Gyanesh Kumar. The footage is instead linked to Greta Thunberg’s reaction to the resignation of India’s Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, in July 2026 at Trafalgar Square, London.

Rating: Misleading

Several social media users have claimed that Greta Thunberg joined an Indian students’ protest in London demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Verified X user ‘Paul_Koshy’ shared such a claim with the caption : “Today a surprise speaker @gretathunberg came to the protest in solidarity with the Indian youth & students at Trafalgar Square, London. Dear India, Join Rahul Gandhi today in his March to the Supreme Court of India.” Attached to the post is a video showcasing Greta Thunberg congratulating the protest by Indian students. FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found it to be misleading. The video dates back to July 26, 2026, and does not depict a protest against Gyanesh Kumar in October 2026. Instead, it shows Greta Thunberg at Trafalgar Square in London, reacting to the resignation of Indian Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in July 2026.

Details:

We first connected a reverse image search on various keyframes of the video to learn more about it. The search results took us to a Youtube video published by ‘MIRROR NOW’ on 27 July, 2026, titled : Greta Thunberg In London! Backs Indian Students As NEET-UG Protest Draws Massive Attention”. From the description we learnt that Thunberg was “extending her full support to Indian students protesting against the NEET-UG paper leak controversy.”

Another search result took us to a Youtube short which was uploaded on 27 July 2027, titled : “Greta Thunberg attended a protest in London to support Indian students”. The visuals and audio are the same as shown in the claim, proving that this was not a recent event in October. She did not mention anything about CEC Gyanesh Kumar or any statements which demanded his resignation.

Next, we conducted a web search with the phrase “Greta Thunberg supports Indian students at Trafalgar square, London” for further confirmation. According to a report by The Print, Thunberg “ joined a victory day celebration in solidarity with the protesters in India. The demonstration, held in Trafalgar Square in London, was to celebrate the resignation of education minister Dharmendra Pradhan…” The report further notes that the gathering was organised on 26 July, 2026 and “Thunberg stood among demonstrators outside the Indian High Commission before the group moved to Trafalgar Square.”

DigitEYE India did not find any credible evidence or report confirming that Greta Thunberg joined a protest in London in October against Gyanesh Kumar. Recently, Thunberg in October has supported high school protestors in France and extended her solidarity with them. However, the visuals from the claim are not recent and they pertain to the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in July 2026, not CEC Gyanesh Kumar.

Thus, the claim is misleading.
