Does this video show armed Illegal Bangladeshis launching attack on police in Assam? Fact Check

Claim: Illegal Bangladeshis have armed themselves with homemade spears to launch a violent attack on officials and police in Goalpara, Assam.

Conclusion: Misrepresentation.The video is from Bangladesh’s Kishoreganj where two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) clashed with each other.

Recently, a viral clip is being circulated around various social media platforms, claiming that Illegal Bangladeshis have armed themselves. The clip shows people marching with allegedly homemade spears to launch an attack on officials and police in Goalpara, Assam.

Verified X user ‘KreatelyMedia’ shared this clip on 5 August 2025 which has gained around 52,000 views. The caption of the post read : “Illegal Bangladeshis have armed themselves with homemade spears to launch a violent attack on officials and police in Goalpara, Assam”. FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and discovered that the clip is used in the wrong context. A reverse image search and keyword analysis revealed the video originates from Bangladesh, not India.

To identify the original source of the video, we first conducted a reverse image search which took us to a report by Ekushey Sangbad. We learned that these clashes took place between two BNP groups in Ashtagram, Bangladesh on 1st July 2025.

The clash between the two BNP groups in Ashtagram was also confirmed by a report published by the Dhaka Mail on 1st July 2025. Tensions grew out of an enduring political and family feud between local BNP president Kamal Pasha and Kishoreganj district volunteer party joint convener Farhad Ahmed.

Other sources like another report by the United News of Bangladesh and a Facebook post by the JagoNews and Daily Sun confirm this. It is clear that the pictures shared in the claim are not from Goalpara, Assam but from the Kishoreganj district, Bangladesh.

After doing a keyword analysis with the phrase ‘40 injured in Kishoreganj’, we came across an official PTI report. The report clearly debunks the claim and affirms that the video “showed clashes between two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party,”. View a snippet from the report below – 

Thus, the claim is false. The video depicts an internal BNP clash in Kishoreganj, Bangladesh, misrepresented as an attack on the police in Goalpara, Assam.
