FACT CHECK

DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and discovered that it is misleading. The footage is not from 2025 but from August 15, 2018, when Shah, then BJP president, hoisted the flag at the party’s New Delhi headquarters.

We first decided to conduct a keyword search with phrases like “Amit Shah dropping the national flag 2025” and “Amit Shah independence day 2025”. Reports by News on AIR and NDTV showcase how he hoisted the Tricolour at his Delhi residence as part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, a government initiative to promote national pride. View a screenshot taken from the report by News on AIR below –

This news and photo contrasts from the claim which portrays Amit Shah in a different setting. ANI shared images of this event on X, urging citizens to participate, and no credible reports mentioned any mishap. View the tweet here.

After conducting a reverse image search from various keyframes of the video, we were directed to reports and tweets from 2018. One such tweet was published by the Indian National Congress on August 15, 2018 on X. View the tweet below –

Other news outlets like the NDTV and National Herald reported this incident on 15 August 2018. The report by NDTV also features Arvind Kejriwal’s tweet who took a dig at this incident, stating that the tricolor refused to wave in the hands of Amit Shah. View a screenshot from the article below –

Thus, the claim is misleading, showcasing a decontextualized 2018 video to fabricate a 2025 incident. The flag was not dropped on purpose and the minor error was rectified immediately with no lasting disrespect.
