BJP offering 3-month free mobile recharge ahead of 2024 elections? Fact Check

A claim is making rounds on WhatsApp with a message that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is offering “three months free recharge” so they can vote for BJP in the 2024 elections.

The post reads: PM Narendra Modi is giving 3 Months Free recharge to all Indian users so that more and more people can vote for BJP in the 2024 elections and BJP government can be formed again… Click on the link given below to get 3 Months Free Recharge. (Last Date – 31 OCTOBER 2023)”

Digiteye India received the message for fact-checking on its Whatsapp helpline.

FACT CHECK

Since we have debunked many such claims related to government schemes in the past, we picked up the request and checked for its veracity on Government official websites and PIB and found that no such “Free Recharge Yojana” has been annunced or mooted by the government so far.

When we checked the links given in the message, one link led us to a website “BJP Free Recharge Yojana”, and another link, “Get Free Recharge”, but to proceed you have to provide your number. See them here and here:

The URL, https://www.bjp.org@bjp2024.crazyoffer.xyz/. It’s not an official website of BJP which is https://www.bjp.org/. Furter, the BJP website did not make any official statement to this effect either. Secondly, the authencity of this website on Scam Detector showed the following result:

When we tried to click on the link, you will be asked to enter your phone number and other details, which is not advisable.

When we searched Google with keywords “BJP free recharge yojana”, several old claims proved false in 2021 as the results page screen grab shows above. Hence, the claim is Totally False.

Claim: PM Narendra Modi is giving 3 Months Free recharge to all Indian users so that more and more people can vote for BJP in the 2024 elections.
Conclusion: No such offer was made by PM or the BJP.
