First it was a fake mugshot of former US President Donald Trump from 2020 that was altered to resemble official mugshots by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office in Atlanta, Georgia, where Trump was arrested and released on bail on Aug. 24. Then, a video started being shared on social media claims that people are celebrating after the release of Donald Trump’s mugshot.
It has been shared on social media platforms after the former US president was booked at the Fulton County jail on August 24. He was charged with election interference in the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.
This allegedly anti-Trump organization is openly celebrating the release of his mugshot. https://t.co/QRh5KYXKeq

The video clip shows a television screen with Donald Trump’s booking photo on CNN. As the photo appears on the screen, the crowd erupts in a cheer. People standing on the mezzanine also cheer and scream in joy. People throw their drinks as a mark of celebration.
The post has gone viral on Twitter. It has been viewed over 7.8 million times and has fetched more than 128K likes and almost 30.8K reposts.
FACT CHECK
Digiteye India team received a WhatsApp request to fact check this viral video, which looked familiar as we debunked a similar claim in the past here. We used inVID – a video verification tool – to get the key frames of the video. These keyframes were, then, used to run a Google Reverse Image search.
We found multiple videos with the same crowd. One such video showed people enjoying a movie on screen. We dug deeper and found the original source of the video. The result showed a YouTube video of people enjoying a football match in England. The video was titled, ‘Fans at Ashton Gate Stadium, Bristol, celebrate England winner against Wales at Euro 2016’. It was posted on YouTube on June 17, 2016, by Heart News West Country.
It was captioned, “Fans watching Euro 2016 on the big screen at Ashton Gate stadium celebrate Daniel Sturridge’s late winner for England against Wales.”
Take a look at the video here:
To check if this video was the original video, we played both videos side by side. They looked similar. However, at 0:14 minutes, a man stood up with his phone to picture the crowd. This was consistent with both the videos.
In 2022, this same video was used for Donald Trump firing Liz Cheney. Digiteye India had debunked that video earlier.
Hence, an old video from 2016 is again passed off as a recent video on Twitter.
CLAIM: A viral video shows people at a bar celebrating the release of Donald Trump’s mugshot.
CONCLUSION: The video is doctored. The original video shows people enjoying a football match in England. The news of Trump’s arrest was photoshopped on the video of the football match.
RATING: Misrepresentation –
