Claim: Pakistan’s flag has been raised on Westminster Abbey, replacing the British flag on the 1000-year-old church.
Conclusion: The claim is misleading. The footage depicts a routine, temporary Commonwealth tradition dating back over 50 years, not a replacement or conquest. The Pakistani flag appears only for one day annually for Pakistan Day on March 23, 2025.

FACT CHECK
DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found that it is misleading. Westminster Abbey, founded in 1065 and a key site for British coronations, routinely flies various flags from its north tower, including the Union Flag, St. Peter’s Flag, and flags of Commonwealth nations during specific services. The Pakistani flag appears on Westminster Abbey annually on March 23rd, which is Pakistan Day.
Details:
We first conducted a web search with the phrase “Westminster Abbey Pakistan’s flag’ to learn about the claim. According to a press release last updated on 22 March, 2025 by Pakistan High Commission London, “As per tradition, the Westminster Abbey organized a Special Evensong to mark the Pakistan Day today evening. The Evensong was sung by the Choir.”
The report further said “Each year, the Westminster Abbey invites the High Commission to a Special Evensong on Pakistan Day to pray for the nation, its leaders, and people.” View a section from it below –

Following this, we checked Westminster Abbey’s official flag policy that is published on their website. We learned that “A National Flag is flown on the day when the High Commission of a Commonwealth member state is represented at Evensong.” View a screenshot of this section below –

As per Commonwealth Sport, “The Islamic Republic of Pakistan joined the Commonwealth in 1947 and re-entered it again in 1989 after leaving the fold in 1972.” Therefore, Pakistan is eligible and their flag is hosted on their national day which happens to fall on 23 March, 2025.
Similarly, Singapore flag was flown atop the Westminster Abbey on Aug 8. The Post can be seen below:
