Verified X user ‘MrTiwaree’ shared such a post with the caption : “Shocking Video: First Hydrogen train gets stoned by ‘education warriors’ on day 3. Railways should bill their colleges for damages, Pathetic.” It includes a 36-second nighttime video of a crowded station platform where people appear to be throwing stones at a train. FACT CHECK
DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found it to be false. The viral footage is not of India’s first hydrogen-powered train being attacked. It is an older video that has been shared with a misleading narrative in the claim. According to Northern Railway, the train in the clip is a different service operated using a WAG-12 electric locomotive.
Details:
We first conducted a reverse image search on various keyframes of the video to learn more about it. While we did not land on the exact result, the search took us to a similar Instagram video uploaded on June 14, 2026. The video is about stone pelting incident “reported in Bihar, affecting police and train operations” and DigitEYE India noted the similarities of the platform.

We also came across a Youtube short uploaded by RepublicWorld on June 14, 2026, titled : “BREAKING: Students Protest Against Train Delay, Clash With Police | Patna | Bihar” The description states how tension “erupted in Patna, Bihar, as students staged a strong protest against massive train delays. The situation turned chaotic when protesters clashed with police forces.” DigitEYE India noted it as same video taken from a different angle with several similarities of the platform. Next, we searched for recent reports about protestors throwing stones at India’s first hydrogen train powered but did not come across any credible reports. According to a TOI report, Prime Minister Nardendra Modi flagged off India’s first hydrogen powered train on Friday, 17 July, 2026. The report mentions that the “train will operate under Northern Railways and its primary maintenance will be at Jind city.”
Northern Railway on their X account debunked this claim and wrote (translated into English) : “The train shown in the video is not a hydrogen train… It is a train powered by the WAG 12 loco. It is probably some old video. The Hydrogen train is providing its services as per its scheduled time.”
