DigitEYE India decided to investigate this claim and found it to be false. Video evidence confirms that PM Narendra Modi’s microphone was functioning during his address at the 2026 BRICS Summit, with no indication of it being muted. The footage accompanying the claim, however, originates from the 2025 BRICS Summit in Brazil rather than the 2026 event.

The 18th BRICS Summit took place on 12–13 September 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi under India’s chairmanship, with the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” We searched for PM Modi’s speech and found the full length footage of the welcome remarks uploaded on Youtube by his official account.
We also found a video of the closing remarks delivered by PM Narendra Modi at the conclusion of the 2026 BRICS summit. The visuals from the claim do not match any of the welcome or closing remarks. This proves that the claim is old and no such incident occurred during the 2026 BRICS summit.
A web search proved that the visuals were indeed from the 2025 BRICS summit held in Brazil last year. Midday India has uploaded a summary of the speech’s insights on their Youtube channel, showcasing PM Modi wearing the same attire as shown in the claim. A press release by the Ministry of External Affairs uploaded on 6 July, 2025 also documents how PM Modi participated in the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
