Altered video track shows anchor claiming INDIA Bloc set to win in 2024 Lok Sabha poll

A video is going viral on social media in which Aaj Tak TV news anchor Chitra Tripathi is heard talking about the INDIA bloc’s lead over the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. In the wake of INDIA bloc’s Patna rally by name Jan Vishwas Maharally on Sunday March 3, 2024, the claim has received wider circulation on social media. See the video:

Speaking in Hindi, the anchor broadly lists several allegations and adds that all the surveys in the country have pinched PM Narendra Modi like “arrows” and the outcome has made the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) nervous. Then she talks about a News 24 poll survey. “This survey revealed that more than 80 per cent of the people believed that the opposition alliance was the dominant party. NDA was at only 14 per cent votes,” she says.

The anchor is seen saying further that this survey is a proof that the people of the country are now fed up with the Prime Minister and lists inflation, unemployment, farmers’ issues, women’s safety, crushing of dissent voice and helping only the rich businessmen among others. The concluding remarks are: “Judega Bharat, Jeetega India,” (India will unite, India will win), which is a slogan of INDIA bloc.

The video was shared by a user who captioned it further as:”BJP has stopped their payment due to fear of defeat.”

FACT CHECK

When Digiteye India checked for the veracity of the video, as the catch phrase belongs to the opposition’s alliance and not said by anchors of any TV news channels. Then, we came across the original user who uploaded a note soon on Twitter that said: “Note :- This video is fake and has been made using AI. Which looks correct. Seeing this, you all can imagine how dangerous AI is. AI should be banned.”

When checked further, we found that the voice was changed in this video using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. The original voice was taken straight out of the following video from Indian National Congress’s Youtube Channel that was uploaded on July 23, 2023.

If you hear the voice, the same transcript has been used in the altered video that was shared to claim that all surveys are predicting INDIA bloc’s win in the Lok Sabha elections. But the survey cited in the original video is about which alliance — INDIA or NDA — is stronger. The context was soon after the INDIA bloc’s Bengaluru meet on July 17-18, 2023. Based on the survey findings, the Indian National Congress’s video was relased. But taking the cue, it was shown in the altered video as if it was recent, eliciting the public opinion just ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections that too by a TV news channel anchor to misrpresent the content of a video.

Hence, the video was altered using the old voice track of a video by the Congress Party in July 2023.
