The post shared on Youtube and X.com claims that Ramesh was arrested in less than 48 hours after the crash. It said his escape “immediately raised suspicions among the public and investigators… Upon reviewing airport surveillance footage, authorities discovered that Ramesh had illegally accessed the runway several hours before the flight and was seen placing something beneath the aircraft.”

FACT-CHECK

As the post has raised alarm, Digiteye India checked for the authenticity of the news and found no police reports to substantiate the claim that Ramesh was arrested. In fact, he attended the funeral of his brother, who died in the crash, on June 19 after being discharged from hospital. And, he was visited by the PM, Home Minister among others when he was recovering in the hospital.

There are also no reports of him being arrested by the Ahmedabad Police. In his series of interviews with the media, Ramesh described a series of issues with the aircraft and made no reference to “human” or extraneous factors. Moreover, the caption with a typo that reads planet, instead of plane shows the inaccuracy in the claim.

Claim: The only survivor of the Air India plane crash was arrested.

Conclusion: Totally False. Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the only survivor of Air India crash never arrested as claimed. He was discharged from the hospital after recovery and even attended funeral of his brother, who died in the crash, one week later.

Rating: Totally False — Five rating
